TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK May 7-11, 2012

Since 1984, the National PTA has designated the first full week of May, Teacher Appreciation Week. At GES, we have some extra special daily themes planned for them and need your help to make this a success. This year, SOL testing is going on simultaneously and class parents of grades 3-5 coordinate breakfast each day from May 1-18, for the students taking them. PTA provides some of the funding and we understand that many parents are volunteering for both.

Monday, May 7, 2012 – Breakfast and Snacks
Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade
Please bring in breakfast items for teachers such as fruit, protein bars, muffins, croissants, bagels, donuts, juice or snacks such as cheese and crackers, vegetable platter, chips and dip, beverages. 2 parent volunteers for setup and cleanup appreciated.

Tuesday, May 8, 2012 – Subway Day
PTA will provide Subway® and beverages for the teachers at lunch.

Wednesday, May 9, 2012 –You are So Sweet
Grades 3, 4, & 5
Please send in sweets such as a bag of candy, cookies, brownies, cake or fruit for the teachers to snack throughout the day. Extra will be used at Thursday’s picnic.

Thursday, May 10, 2012 – Supply Me! and Afterschool Teacher Picnic
All Grades
Please send in a classroom replenishment supply for your teacher. Common items are pre-sharpened pencils, glue sticks, tissues, disinfecting wipes, post it notes, markers, colored copy paper, varying sized sandwich bags. Some teachers may have specific items on a wish list section on their blog or a project on donorschoose.org to fund.

Teachers will be treated to an afterschool event at Hidden Rock Park with a bbq meal and music. Desserts can be dropped off in the teacher lounge Wednesday or Thursday.

Friday, May 11, 2012 – “Thank you for all you do for us.”
All students and parents are asked to write a note of thanks for your teachers and bring in a flower from your garden.

Parent Volunteers Welcome!
We need setup and cleanup on food days, decorated recyclable containers to use as small vases for Friday’s flowers.  Parents are already in place for T/W/Fri cafeteria so teachers can eat.

If you can volunteer, donate or have questions, contact PTA secretary, Colleen Williams at cmchwms@comcast.net or home# 545-0825 cell# 380-6986
